DIY | TASSEL BOOKMARKS

6.30.2014
I remember when I was in highschool, I loved personalizing my school supplies. I would make my own book covers, added collages on my notebooks, and even painted my backpack. When Scotch approached me to come up with a back to school inspired DIY, I was quite excited. I created a tassel bookmark using the new beautiful and vibrant collection of Scotch® Duct Tape. Who says reading can’t be fun and chic?

MATERIALS:
- Scotch® Duct Tape (Hot Pink, Tangerine Orange, Sea Blue, Chalkboard)
- Leather
- Sueded Cording
- Scissors
- Vinyl
- Leather
- Ruler
- Permanent Marker
- e6000® Permanent Craft Adhesive
Tape 2 rows of duct tape, about 10” long, onto the vinyl (overlapping by ¼”). Draw a box onto the duct tape 3 ¼” x 8”.
Cut out the drawn box.  Then on the back, draw a line with a permanent marker, ¾” down from the top edge.
Then, cut thin strips across the the tape, stopping at the drawn line.
On the back, add a thin layer of e6000® adhesive to the top edge (do not pass the drawn line).
Cut a strip of the sueded cording about 22” long.  Lay one side of the cut strip onto adhesive (as shown).
Roll the duct tape around the sueded cord.  Then, cut a small strip of a contrast color duct tape about ½” x 2 ½”.  Apply this small strip as an accent detail around the upper portion of the tassel.  Let dry overnight.   Note: To create a leather version of the tassel, follow the same steps.  Then, add a small strip of duct tape as an accent (as per step 6).
Try a chalkboard duct tape version, and draw geometric pattern for a fun, personal touch!

I am proud to be a 3M- sponsored blogger, and, as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate new products from Scotch® Duct Tape. Opinions are my own and additional product used in the project were selected by me.
