Late last year I moved into a cozy little house, after living in an apartment for so many years. Since then, I have been wanting to delve into more home DIY’s to personalize my new place. When the lovely team at 3M/Scotch approached me to try out their Scotch® Color & Pattern Duct Tape, I knew it was such a great opportunity to do so. I love layering and adding accent pieces in my wardrobe and daily outfits, but also wanted to carry this idea into my home. I decided to give my lucite trays a spring update with pops of pattern and color with these two easy to follow DIY’s. Full tutorial after the break...
Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape Trim Lucite Tray

Scotch scissors
Lucite Tray

1. Cut the Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape so that is has a clean and straight edge.
2. Lay the duct tape onto the outer edge of the side (starting in one corner). Continue laying the duct tape across the entire length of that side, using a ruler to make sure it is perfectly centered.
3.  Continue laying the duct tape across all 4 sides of the tray, until meeting at the starting point.
4.  Cut the excess with scissors.

Xacto Knife Lucite
Lucite Tray

1. Cut the Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape so that is has a clean and straight edge.
2. Lay that cut straight edge against the corner of the inside of the lucite tray.
3. Continue laying the tape across the inner tray. Once you get to the opposite edge, cut the excess.
4. To create a clean edge, press the duct tape firmly into the corner with your finger.
5. Run the Xacto knife across the duct tape, into the corner. The corner of the tray should guide the knife.
6. Peel off the excess duct tape with tweezers. Repeat steps 1 through 6, across the inner tray, overlapping the tape slightly, until the entire inner portion is covered.

Please check out the rest of the Scotch® Color & Pattern Duct Tape to see which ones best match your personal spring style! For more info, check out their Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

This post is a collaboration with Scotch® Color & Pattern Duct Tape, but words and opinions are my own.

Love this!! In the preview images, I thought you used scrapbooking paper for the second DIY because the pattern looked perfectly repeatable. Such a creative way to use duct tape!

Just like Michelle and Katrina, I thought the second DIY was paper. The scotch tape seems like a great thing for crafting. I can't wait to see the other designs you do to develop your home.

Thank you! It's so easy to do as well! Having the pattern look seamless is easiest with a busy pattern.

I love these DIYs, Aimee! These are really gorgeous and I can't wait to try them. But do you have any advice on where to get really good (but inexpensive) lucite trays? I've seen some at places like Crate and Barrel but I live in Hawaii, and shipping is inSAHHHHN.

Any tips you can suggest would be GREAT!

Love + aloha, Mae Xx //
