DIY | SPIKED WIDE BRIM HAT

5.16.2013
When the great team at Wasteland approached me to come with a hat DIY, I perused inspiration and came across this amazing street style shot from Vogue.com. I love that with an addition of a few spikes, a wide brim hat can instantly become street chic, with a slight edge. Personalize your own in a few simple steps.  Full tutorial after the break...

Materials:
- small and large spikes (screw on)
- awl
- marking pencil
- measuring tape

Steps:
1. Measure the circumference of the hat.
2. Divide the measurement by how many spikes you have. I had 24 spikes, and the circumference was 24", so I spaced them 1" apart. Use your pencil, and mark dots that are 1" apart. Then, poke holes at each dot, using an awl.
3. Screw on the spikes at each hole. I alternated small and large spikes to resemble my inspiration.

Also, the lovely folks at M&J Trimming are offering a 15% off spikes code to my readers.
CODE: SPIKES15

And thank you to Wasteland for partnering on this DIY!!!

Love this idea! I think I'll transfer the spikes from my dress onto my hat now, haha. That green shade is nice :)
