DIY | BOX CLEAR CLUTCH

4.14.2013
I love repurposing items from my home, and being able to breathe new life into them.  The other day I bought a few lucite trays for a DIY, but ended up only using two, and have been trying to figure out what to do with the extras since. As I was walking through the hardware store last week, I came up with an idea to create a box clear clutch. It is a great, chic statement piece, and can be worn with so many different outfits by simply changing the inner pouch.   Here, I am displaying my love for the neon trend, which seems to return every spring, by inserting my favorite Marc by Marc pouch and painting my nails.  See my full tutorial after the break...
Materials:
- two lucite trays (9 1/2" x 6 1/2")
- two 2" hinges
- decorative hasp
- e6000 adhesive

Steps:
1. Add e6000 to the bottom part of each side of the hinge.
2. Place the hinge (glue side down), onto the outer longer edge of the lucite tray (about 1" away from the corner), one tray at a time. Then, glue the second hinge in the same way.
3. Take the hasp set and add e6000 to the bottom.
4. Glue onto the center of the upper long edge, as shown in the photo.

And I must share... A few of my favorite DIY'ers, Stripes & Sequins and Honestly WTF, have done beautiful clear clutches as well.

I love this. It's better thanb using a prehinged box, which is never equal on both sides.
A purse inside of a purse is the dumbest trend ever but I can't help but like it. It looks so cool.

Where did you get your lucite trays?

Aimee S. said...

Hi Alex! I bought them from The Container Store, but unfortunately they are not on their website. Maybe if you call a location near you they might have it in stock. I think they were about $5.99 or so. Hope that helps!

where do you buy the lucite trays???

Viona said...

Hi, just wondering where can I get the lucite trays from? I live in Australia, so an online shop would be great.
Thanks,
Viona
