DIY | FLOWER CROWN

3.27.2013
I simply love flower crowns. And with Coachella just around the corner, I knew this was the perfect moment to share a tutorial. It's also really fun to get all your girlfriends together and have a flower crown making party. This is the first of 2 festival DIY's I'm making for an exciting giveaway with my friend Lan's online boutique (here). Details to come! Full steps after the break...

MATERIALS:
- wire cutter
- 22 gauge green floral wire
- vine wrapped rustic wire
- floral tape
- faux flowers

STEPS:
1 and 2. Take the brown rustic wire and create a circle that is slightly larger than your head. Twist the ends together, as shown in the photo.
3. Cut the stems of your flowers to about 1 to 2". Begin arranging the flowers onto your crown base to create a design you like. Then, starting from the right side, securely wrap your flowers onto the crown base. When the flowers are smaller, you can wire wrap several flowers at a time.
4. Continue wrapping flowers until you reach the left side of the crown base. I tend to use smaller flowers on the left and right side and larger flowers toward the center front.
5. Wrap areas where the stem and wire is exposed with floral tape.

This is so lovely! I made a couple of flower crowns last year but just used wire. But the wrapped wire looks way better.
It's just still snowing here so flower crowns are not appropriate yet :(

I love the mix of flowers.

I recently made a rose crown but this looks so much more natural.

This is really cute! I love flower crowns and especially the popularity of them so that I can see their beauty all over the place! I wish I could go to Coachella this year, but I'm all the way in Japan. I'll save this tutorial for Fuji Rock though. ;)
