I fell completely in love when I saw the Isabel Marant tiered lace shorts from her Spring ’11 Collection (via style.com), I just had to make a pair of my own. And recently, I stumbled upon a photo of Rumi Neely (via fashiontoast.com), styling herself in a black pair, which felt so effortless.
I’m not much of a girlie girl… but I do love my lace. Why not take something so feminine, like lace, and mix it with something menswear inspired, like a short. It feels so modern, and definitely can be worn in so many ways. It can be paired with an oxford shirt and boots to take a more boyish route… or go all out feminine with a romantic top and heels. This project was pretty simple, I guess the hardest part for me was waiting for the glue to dry… I get so antsy… I just wanted to throw them on!

Ah this is so lovely!
Question: how much lace did you use and what was the width of the lace?
oomg, i JUST bought lace shorts, dangit i should have seen this DIY sooner haha. wow your DIY projects are AMAZING, can you do one for shorts with a scallop design on the bottom? i've been trying to find a pair but no luck.

<3, Kathleen.
all: thank you for visiting and the for beautiful comments! means so much to me!!
anonymous: i used about 4 yards of lace... if you're in LA, the garment district has great trim stores... and you can always bargain with them (esp. when buying multiple yards)... i think this lace was only $2.50/yd. And the width you may need to gauge according to what shorts you end up using, but for reference my lace was about 3" in width
wow! those look wonderful!

love these! really good DIY
Great shorts
where are your seams
does the glue hold up or did you later add a stitch?
if you don't live in L.A. Alchemylace on Ebay has great trim for a great price.
anonymous: thank love!! there is only one seam on one of the side seams... i actually glued it down... then later hand sewed it for a cleaner look. let me know if you have any other questions! thanks! :)
dags: thanks for the great tip!! :)
hi erynn!!
thanks for the sweet comment... i couldn't seem to connect to your blog, so hope this answer finds you somehow :)
I used a slightly stretch pair of shorts, which i do NOT recommend... what i would recommend is a pair of silk or satin shorts (non-stretch fabric).... maybe look in the pajama or lingerie dept. let me know if you have any other ques!
